Universities are centres of knowledge which have an increasing prominent role in society. This applies also to the University of Algarve.
Here one finds students from all over the world. Here research is being carried out in areas in which the University is specialising. Strong ties exist with businesses, associations and public entities. Networks with other universities are expanding. This facilitates the mobility of students and teachers in collaboration with other national and foreign universities.
Young people who come to the University of Algarve and take advantage of the existing work conditions, not only look for a position in organizations, public entities and enterprises, national or international, may also choose the region of Algarve either to fill jobs which are available or to develop their own activities. The dynamism of the region guarantees a high rate of employment for undergraduates. The technical-scientific knowledge acquired allows them also to find employment outside the Algarve. The scientific work conditions are recognised as exceptional. The relationships with the community show a strong common interest in all areas: scientific, technical, entrepreneurial, cultural, sports, with special relevance to the collective responsibility which we all must have in order to contribute actively to a better world.
The University of Algarve does not confine itself to teaching, but also to the production of additional knowledge and to the transfer of knowledge and technology. The University does not only cater for candidates who have completed the 12th year of high school, but also caters for other candidates considered qualified including older persons. The University does not limit itself to narrow educational activities, but offers a wide range of extra curricular activities, such as sport, music and theatre.
The University is at all times aware of its social responsibilities including contributions to global sustainability.
